The Embassy and the Apostolic Nuncio coordinate emergency support for victims of floods

On Sunday 3 rd December 2023 His Excellency Archbishop Hubertus Van Megen, Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya and South Sudan, on behalf of the Order of Malta handed over to Rev. Fr. Ambrose Muli, head of the Secretariat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Malindi, representing His Lordship the Rt. Rev. Willybard Lagho, Bishop of Malindi, a donation for the victims of the recent flooding of the coastal region of Kenya.

2023 World Day for the Poor at Nairobi’s Nyumba Ya Wazee

“Do not look away from the poor” (Tobit 4,7) was the theme for the 2023 World Day for the Poor which was celebrated for the seventh time by the Church on 19 November 2023. It is an appointment, Pope Francis explained, "that the Church is progressively rooting in its pastoral care, in order to discover more and more the central content of the Gospel".  The Holy Father urged everyone to work toward providing free healthcare, medical examinations, vaccinations, and bill payment assistance to those in need.

A success-story – Tangulbei maternity hospital

Tangulbei is a small and almost unknown town, in the far North West of Kenya, with a formal population of 4,979. However, it lies in the heart of the territory of the semi-nomadic Pokot people, who number almost 150,000. Thanks to the generous support and tireless efforts of the Order of Malta Companions of Kenya, it was possible to build a maternity ward at the Catholic Mission hospital in TANGULBEI.

Official Opening of Maternity Clinic in Pokot, Northern Kenya

Traditional infant mortality rates average 30% in this most austere region of Kenya. The Spiritan Fathers help remote communities connect with Christianity through the patient and respectful provision of healthcare and education, and in so doing provide a path to knowledge and faith. The Companions of Kenya raised over £90,000 to construct and equip the clinic.
