On 18th September 2025 the Embassy hosted a dinner at the residence to welcome the Malteser International team composed of Manuel Lackmaier (Country Director), Cornelia Kliment (member of the MI board), Roland Hansen (Senior Business Partnership Advisor, MI), and Joy China (Country office) with a group of distinguished prospective private donors monitoring and supporting Malteser International ongoing projects and attracting funding of new ones.
Conversations centered on collaborative opportunities with private donors: Dr. Jörg Klein, Managing Director of Daimler und Benz Stiftung, who has expressed interest in supporting a One Health research project apparently in partnership with Prof. Zinnstag of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute. Other potential partners included Dr. Ralph Kieser, an Insurance Business expert who could be a major donor for projects in Kenya, Peter Pauls, a journalist connected to the Alfred Neven DuMont Foundation, Stephen Berzdorf a Knight of the Order with broad experience in fundraising initiatives and its partner PACIDA, a pastoralist relief organization.
The following day on 19th September 2025, the above-mentioned MI team and Embassy officials (CdA, Counsellor) visited the Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital where the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) programme is carried out. It was an occasion for the visitors to also attend an emergency training session.
Later Roland Hansen, Prof. Zinnstag and the Embassy Chargé d’Affaires, Dr. Franco De Paoli, were invited for a quick lunch at the Embassy of Switzerland. This was an opportunity to reflect on the fruitful meetings and to explore avenues for future collaboration in One Health initiatives with a team from the Swiss Development Cooperation.
