St John’s Day 2026 celebration at House of Charity Children’s Home
29/06/2026

On 24 June 2026, the Feast of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist, Patron of the Sovereign Order of Malta, the Orders Embassy team and the Companions of Kenya visited the House of Charity Children’s Home in Nairobi.

The event began with the celebration of Holy Mass, offered by Rev. Msgr. Luciano Labanca, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Apostolic Nunciature in Kenya. Following Mass, the Companions donated food items, clothing and toys for the children and the Sisters, before spending time with the children at the Home. The visit was a moment of prayer, fellowship, and practical service, reflecting the Order’s mission of Tuitio Fidei et Obsequium Pauperum, witnessing to the faith and serving the poor and the sick.

Saint John’s Day holds particular significance for the Order of Malta. As Patron of the Order, Saint John the Baptist remains a model of humility, courage, and faithful witness to Christ. Marking this feast day at the House of Charity Children’s Home was a fitting expression of that same spirit. Through presence, care, and solidarity, we all reaffirmed our commitment to serving vulnerable communities with dignity and compassion. The idea of celebrating the Feast of St. John at the House of Charity Children’s Home was the wonderful initiative of Dr. Franco and Marinella di Paoli, who introduced it as a thoughtful birthday gift.

The House of Charity is a dedicated safe haven, located on Kabarsiran Avenue in the Westlands area of Nairobi, Kenya. Run by the Montfortians and the Poverelle Sisters of Bergamo, the facility cares for babies and toddlers aged 0 to 3 years.

The Companions all expressed our deepest thanks to the Sisters at the House of Charity Children’s Home for their witness of Faith and service, and for kindly hosting them on this important day for the Order.
