The Companions of the Order of Malta in Kenya marked the ‘ground breaking’ for a new Mother and Child Centre in the remote area of Keringet, Kenya, reaffirming the Orders commitment to maternal and child health and to sustainable community development.

Speaking on behalf of His Excellency Wilhelm von Trott zu Solz, Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta, Embassy Counsellor Mr. Sam Mattock expressed the Ambassador’s sincere gratitude to the Right Reverend Cleophas Osesso, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru, Father Michael Gachie who blessed the grounds and celebrated Mass and to the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception—particularly Sister Esta Koros and Sister Bridget—for their devoted service to the community.

Special recognition was given to world famous athlete Ms. Faith Kipyegon for her inspiring vision to give back to the community that raised and supported her. Her commitment demonstrates how personal success can be transformed into lasting social impact.

The project was made possible through strong partnerships. The Order of Malta conveyed its appreciation to Nike, represented by Ms. Tanya Hvizdak and Mr. Simon Bairu, for their trust and cooperation in supporting the construction of the Centre. The presence of guest of honour Mr. Eliud Kipchoge further highlighted the values of excellence, perseverance, and service reflected in this initiative.

The Ambassador also acknowledged the dedicated efforts of the Order of Malta Companions of Kenya technical and construction team, as well as the wider project team, whose professionalism will ensure the completion of the project, on time and within budget to this.

The Centre builds on the proven impact of similar projects. In Baringo County, a comparable facility reduced maternal and infant mortality from an average of three deaths per month to three cases in total since 2023, this facility saving an estimated 105 lives.

Entrusted to the care of the Franciscan Sisters, the Mother and Child Centre will be a place of compassion, dignity, and hope supporting mothers, protecting new life, and contributing to a healthier future for the community.
