Formation Retreat in Nairobi

Formation Retreat in Nairobi
28/11/2025

A group of 20 companions gathered at the Resurrection Garden in Nairobi, Kenya, for the first Order of Malta formation retreat on the continent of Africa. We came together for three days, in the spirit of a shared purpose and our strong faith. We were honored to have the Prelate of the Order of Malta, Monsignor Luis Ramos and HE Michael Grace as the main presenters, covering the Orders historical past, and spiritual future.

The experience was exhilarating and profoundly religious enriching our understanding of the Order of Malta. Msgr Ramos, with his soft-spoken yet impactful style, delivered lessons that will resonate with us for a lifetime. HE Michael Grace, a member of the Orders Sovereign Council, complemented Msgr beautifully, leading the proceedings with grace—including a heartfelt rendition of “Salve Regina” that filled our prayer gatherings with joy. On Sunday, we all participated in the moving Remembrance Service at the Commonwealth War Graves on Ngong Road, on behalf of the Embassy, honouring the soldiers who fell in the second World War.

The retreat concluded on an inspiring note with visits to two charitable institutions. At Kwetu Home, a center dedicated to rehabilitating street children, the group shared tea and fellowship with the young residents. They then proceeded to Waithaka Special Needs School, where the day of service and reflection came to a meaningful close.
