A success-story – Tangulbei maternity hospital

Tangulbei is a small and almost unknown town, in the far North West of Kenya, with a formal population of 4,979. However, it lies in the heart of the territory of the semi-nomadic Pokot people, who number almost 150,000. Thanks to the generous support and tireless efforts of the Order of Malta Companions of Kenya, it was possible to build a maternity ward at the Catholic Mission hospital in TANGULBEI.

Official Opening of Maternity Clinic in Pokot, Northern Kenya

Traditional infant mortality rates average 30% in this most austere region of Kenya. The Spiritan Fathers help remote communities connect with Christianity through the patient and respectful provision of healthcare and education, and in so doing provide a path to knowledge and faith. The Companions of Kenya raised over £90,000 to construct and equip the clinic.

The 1858 Marian apparition made Bernadette the victim of ridicule and scorn in the small community, but she endured the vilification for the greater good of responding to God's will. Bringing to life the lesson that in His time, God's will is not so much for us to comprehend but to obey.

Support to Waithaka Special School

Wayne Hennessy-Barrett, Deputy Chairman of the Companions of Kenya visited Waithaka Special School in Dagoretti, Nairobi on 8 June. They planted trees and donated 8 desktop computers to equip teaching staff.

Embassy of the Order to Kenya Facilitates Import of Urgently Needed Medical Equipment for a Remote Hospital in Kisii County

The Tabaka Mission Hospital was built some forty years ago initially as a child birth centre, run by the Camillian order. It then gradually expanded to offer other health care services including a nurse training unit. It is located in north-western Kenya, in Kisii county, one of the most economically disadvantaged areas in the country, with a high HIV prevalence rate.
