The Companions of the Order of Malta in Kenya have achieved another medical first at the Catholic Mission Hospital in the very remote area of Tangulbei, North West Kenya. Thanks entirely to the generosity and foresight of the Mordaunt family, we are delighted to announce the delivery and installation of a brand-new blood bank fridge to the Good Samaritan Catholic Mission Hospital in Tangulbei.
The Blood Bank Fridge holds 60 Litres, transfusions have already been carried out in Tangulbei, when blood would ordinarily only have been available at the level 4 hospital in Kabarnet, a round trip of 240 kilometres on terrible roads that are impassable in the rainy season.
More importantly, it gives the surgeons working at the Order of Malta Maternity Theatre the confidence to carry out C Sections, knowing that they have access to an immediate and trusted source of blood.
Below are pictures of the Blood Bank Fridge
Thanks once again to the Mordaunts for their unwavering support to the people of Kenya
