World Day of the Poor

The hope of the poor shall not perish for ever

In honour of the World Day of the Poor, the embassy staff, family and friends team up with staff from the British High Commission to Kenya to support a superb initiative called iAfrica.

iAfrica is a rehabilitation centre for street children : they take the children in, house them, educate them academically and spiritually and try and re home them when they are ready for it. In the words of the school director Opie, “we just try and make the world a better place for them”. His team do truly inspirational work.

There are 63 children within iAfrica, with a staff team of 11 .

The church service was very emotional, with some wonderful singing by the children, dancing by the adults and celebrating and praying by us all.

Afterwards, each child and teacher was given an individual food hamper containing essentials such as cooking oil, maize meal, sugar, salt and biscuits. On top of this British Airways kindly donated a Club Class blanket for each child and teacher.

A day to remember the poor and we were humbled they let us do so.
