It is always a moving and emotional experience to visit The Nest Baby village. This is where abandoned babies are given a home until they move on to a family of their own or until they are old enough to join the Children’s Home. The Nest programme also rescues children whose mothers are in prison. They are rehabilitated and later reintegrated together with their released mothers with their extended families and society at large. Ambassador Dr. Wilhelm von Trott zu Solz, accompanied by the Deputy Head of Mission, was happy and humbled to pay a visit to The Nest Baby Village, carrying gifts donated graciously to the Order by Countess M.J. von Walderdorf from Bavaria who knitted baby articles consisting of jackets, hats and blankets. She has generously promised to make more of these wonderful and very much needed items. Irene Baumgärtner, the founder, and the young mothers were delighted to receive these gifts for their babies and thanked the Ambassador profusely, breaking out in joyous song and dance, inviting him to join the manifestation of gratitude. The Nest programme comprises The Nest Children’s Home, where 90 children aged 3-18 are cared for, the Halfway House for emergency accommodation for up to 10 mothers with young children upon their release from prison and the mentioned Nest Baby Village. There is a continuous need for assistance at The Nest and it is a great and wonderful opportunity for volunteers to make available their services to this worthy cause.
