Drought Emergency in Kenya

Drought Emergency in Kenya
22/04/2022

Three consecutive rainy seasons have brought far below average rainfalls in Kenya especially in the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands like North Horr in Marsabit County which are in urgent need of aid. As a result, more than half a million children are acutely malnourished and tens of thousands of animals have starved, pastures have withered, and wells have dried up. “The population does not know what to eat anymore, small children cannot be provided with milk from the cows and goats and the need is huge, the whole region is depressed” says Roland Hansen, head of Malteser International’s Africa department which is providing emergency relief through cash transfer, food baskets and water provision to 4,000 most vulnerable households. This is being implemented with the support of the German Foreign Office and through the local implementing partner PACIDA (Pastoralist Community Initiative & Development) for the next three months.

But the needs currently far outweigh the response in the region. An appeal for URGENT DONATIONS is being made to save the lives of the people in distress. This will also help Malteser International to provide the necessary support in the long term.

Donations can be made through the account of the Embassy of the Order to the Republic of Kenya
