{"id":103,"date":"2021-05-20T08:31:01","date_gmt":"2021-05-20T05:31:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/kenyaembassy.smom.rc.77test.co.uk\/news\/suswa-soila-girls-rescue-centre-suswa\/"},"modified":"2022-06-29T06:45:39","modified_gmt":"2022-06-29T03:45:39","slug":"suswa-soila-girls-rescue-centre-suswa","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/kenyaembassy.orderofmalta.int\/en\/news\/suswa-soila-girls-rescue-centre-suswa\/","title":{"rendered":"Suswa Soila Girls Rescue Centre (SUSWA)"},"featured_media":104,"menu_order":0,"template":"","class_list":["post-103","news","type-news","status-publish","hentry","news_tags-breaking","news_tags-evidence"],"acf":{"focus_on":"no","breaking":"yes","news_cover":{"id":104,"url":"https:\/\/kenyaembassy.orderofmalta.int\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2022\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2021-05-16-at-10.30.03.jpeg"},"news_content":"<p>On Sunday 1<sup>st<\/sup> May 2021, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Mattock paid a visit to the Soila Girls Rescue Centre to deliver maize that had been kindly donated by Kenyan Mara Farmer, Cliff Nolan-Neylan.<\/p>\n<p>The Suswa project was established in 2005 in the heart of the Rift Valley, Kenya, and is a refuge and full time boarding school for Maasai girls at risk of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and early arranged marriage, still a tradition and common practice in the Maasai community of Kenya.<\/p>\n<p>With the co-operation of the local Chiefs and community elders, SUSWA provides these girls with a safe living environment where they also receive a high standard of education, as an alternative path in life to FGM and early marriage.<\/p>\n<p>Some girls were able to complete their education in Scotland, in particular one young lady earning a First Class Honours Degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Edinburgh University.<\/p>\n<p>In all cases, the girls\u2019 parents\/guardians have given their permission for their daughters to embark on this new way of life.<\/p>\n<p>The project has grown significantly over the years and has the capacity to house up to 100 girls aged between 7 and 15.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Mattock was gifted with a beautiful handmade beaded Maasai necklace by teacher Linda, the Acting Head of the school and it was placed around her neck by Rose, one of the Suswa girls.<\/p>\n","news_gallery":"no","news_excerpt":"On Sunday 1st May 2021, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Mattock paid a visit to the Soila Girls Rescue Centre to deliver maize.","evidence":"yes"},"news_categories":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/kenyaembassy.orderofmalta.int\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/notizie\/103","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/kenyaembassy.orderofmalta.int\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/notizie"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/kenyaembassy.orderofmalta.int\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/news"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/kenyaembassy.orderofmalta.int\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/notizie\/103\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/kenyaembassy.orderofmalta.int\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/104"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/kenyaembassy.orderofmalta.int\/en\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=103"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
